Mt Mee Public Hall 80th Birthday
The Mount Mee Public Hall is the centre of the Mount Mee community with so much happening both in and around the hall. So the hall’s 80th birthday was a huge occasion celebrated by a luncheon on 22 September 2013.
There was a remarkable turn-out of about 120 people – many of them long – time residents who have left the Mountain for retirement reasons – there were far too many names to mention here.
The luncheon of cold collation and following sweets was served by Jill Warschau – President of the Mt Mee P&C, with help from her mother, Mrs Esme Graham and three very handy school pupils, Annabelle and Jim Hinchey and Thomas Trost. Judy Quinn helped out too.
That was a wonderful touch, that allowed the usual Hall ‘galley slaves’ to join fully in the seminal function.
During the break between the courses, Council Facilities Officer Janelle Springall made some very complimentary observations about our Hall management team, and then old resident Bob Moorhead gave a most entertaining resume of some of his memories of the Hall down the years.
After the sweets had been disposed of, Nell Seymour – nee Winkel of Hausmann Rd, played some Gypsy Tap tunes on the piano. The ageing fingers still worked like lightning and some of the crowd got up and danced.
But the main thing was talking – amongst people who hadn’t seen each other for years – there was plenty of that!
It was a very successful day – our thanks go to organisers Joyce Knight and Audrey Pickering!
